This course is designed specifically for seniors who are looking to support their brain health. Every week includes 4 sessions, and every session combines: Movement, memory or recall, dual-task thinking (thinking + moving), balance or coordination (seated or standing), cognitive effort (language, attention, sequencing, association). This mirrors how the brain actually works in daily life.
Focus: Introduce gentle movement, memory recall, association, and rhythm to build comfort, confidence, and foundational cognitive-motor integration.
Sessions:
Move & Name: Gentle marching or seated stepping while naming items in a category to train attention, working memory, and dual-tasking.
Recall & Associate: Visual memory with images or objects, paired with emotional or meaningful associations to strengthen short-term memory and connection.
Balance & Think: Gentle standing or seated balance exercises combined with simple counting or recall tasks to improve postural awareness, attention, and cognitive-motor integration.
Rhythm & Calm: Music or beat-based movement to activate motor, emotional, and memory networks, supporting engagement, coordination, and relaxation.
Outcome: Participants gain confidence combining movement and thinking, learning that cognitive and motor skills can work together safely and enjoyably.
Focus: Introduce switching, sorting, and dual-task exercises to enhance cognitive flexibility, functional memory, and coordination.
Sessions:
Walk, Name & Switch: Alternating between categories while walking or stepping to train attention shifting, flexibility, and dual-tasking.
Sort, Reach & Associate: Categorization of objects/images paired with reaching or gentle movements to strengthen memory organization, visuospatial skills, and motor planning.
Strength, Count & Remember: Chair-supported strength exercises combined with counting or short memory lists to train working memory and functional strength.
YTM Patterns (Your Turn, My Turn): Rhythm-based dual-movement patterns to reinforce timing, coordination, bilateral integration, and attention.
Outcome: Participants begin to handle multiple cognitive and motor demands simultaneously, improving real-world functionality and confidence.
Focus: Apply previous skills in functional and playful activities to reinforce sequencing, dual-tasking, and short-term memory.
Sessions:
Reach & Count: Movement combined with short-term recall to strengthen attention, working memory, and motor planning.
Reverse Circles: One hand circles forward, the other backward, engaging bilateral coordination, timing, and dual-tasking with optional verbal recall.
Strength & Short-Term Memory: Functional strength exercises paired with memory lists to improve working memory, attention, and functional independence.
Simon Says / Sally Says: Balance, sequencing, and inhibition challenge to strengthen executive function, attention, and real-life multitasking skills.
Outcome: Participants gain confidence performing everyday tasks while maintaining attention, memory, and coordination under mild challenge.
Focus: Consolidate all skills from previous weeks through playful, social, and integrative exercises while celebrating progress.
Sessions:
Daily Life Task Recall: Practice real-life sequences (e.g., making tea, folding laundry) with hand patterns to reinforce working memory, sequencing, and functional independence.
Movement & Memory Circuits: Rotate through gentle movement stations with associated memory or association questions to strengthen cognitive-motor integration.
Social Brain & Story: Conversation or storytelling paired with light movement to enhance memory, attention, language, and social engagement.
Pat Head & Rub Tummy: Final celebration activity combining dual-tasking, coordination, rhythm, and humor to consolidate all learned skills, boost mood, and reinforce confidence.
Outcome: Participants integrate movement, memory, attention, sequencing, and coordination in a celebratory, motivating session that leaves them feeling accomplished and empowered.
